Expanding the Potential of Scalable MEC with New Compute and P4 Switch Blade

Taipei, Taiwan — 15th, December, 2020 Lanner Electronics, a world leader in the design and manufacturing of intelligent edge computing appliances, announces two upgraded elements for its HTCA-6000 MEC platform series, including the new Lanner HLM-1100 switch blade and HMB-6110 high-performance computing blade.

Lanner’s new HMB-6110 CPU blade comes equipped with dual 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors per blade for a significant upgrade in computing performance. It supports Intel® E810 100Gbps network controller for workload-optimized performance at wire speed of up to 100Gbps for enhanced application efficiency and network performance. Compare to the previous generation HMB-6100, it accelerates high-priority applications, packet processing, and latency-sensitive workloads. It synchronizes networks from the Cloud to the 5G Edge.

The new HLM-1100 is a programmable switch blade that features Tofino P4 programmable Ethernet switch ASICs for improved performance. Through this highly converged forwarding plane, it provides mobile networks with high availability and flexibility. Working together with the HMB-6110, the HLM-1100 optimizes the potential of HTCA-6000 series appliances with expanded computing performance for converged Mobile Edge networks.

With 5G deployment gaining speed worldwide, firms are exceedingly looking to open programmable “whitebox” hardware and programmable software-defined networks.

“Whitebox” solutions are a subset of the disaggregation trend characterized by transitioning of switching and routing appliances from proprietary, closed hardware and software sourced from a single vendor to decoupled, open components. An essential aspect of “whitebox” hardware is programmability for software-defined networks (SDN). Lanner’s latest additions to the HTCA line are geared towards helping customers take advantage of this new trend.
