A world-class in-room automation solution provider in Asia came to Lanner looking for an ultra compact gateway intended for enabling integrated control and management for in-room shades, lighting, fireplace, thermostat, front door access, CCTV and video/audio infotainment system. This thin-client must have a fanless design, a low-power processor and LAN/WiFi/COM connectivity. In terms of dimension, this gateway computer has to be as thin as a conventional laptop so that it can be installed behind TV walls.
One of Lanner’s most compact embedded box PCs, the LEC-7230L, was selected for this particular room automation application. The LEC-7230L offers ultra compact design (196 x 41 x 146 cm) and low-powered Intel Celeron J1900 processor (codenamed BayTrail). For interoperability, LEC-7230L’s SFF comes with a very high port density that includes dual LAN ports, dual COM ports, dual USB ports, video ports (HDMI) and mini-PCIe expansion, making it ideal for in-room equipment connectivity.
The dual RS-232/422/485 serial COM ports can be leveraged for connecting multiple in-room devices from different vendors for controlling amenities and facilities such as the front door, curtains, lighting, air conditioner and audio/video systems. The GbE ports, on the other hand, not only facilitate CCTV video transmission and concierge services such as wake up calls and news or infotainment delivery, but also make available the capability for remotely managing such automation systems.
The LEC-7230L is DIN-rail mountable and features easy access to all available I/O ports, greatly simplifying deployment and maintenance at locations with confined and limited spaces.
