LEC-2290: The LEC-2290 is an intelligent edge computing box PC and AI platform with support for Intel® Core™ i7-8700T/i7-8700. This appliance is rich in I/O, and it is designed explicitly for compute-intensive AI-powered video analytics in the network edge. The LEC-2290 can perform various computer vision algorithms to improve applications in rural areas such as physical security and crop monitoring.
In short, the fruition of this collaboration is succeeding in deploying cloud computing capabilities in rural and remote areas so that cloud-native workloads and applications can be run and managed efficiently via 5G edge networks with the following benefits:
- 5G connectivity with reduced latency: time-sensitive information such as precision agriculture, and big data collection/analytics/transmission could take place by bringing “cloud” computing capabilities closer to the end-users at the “edge”.
- Security Enhancement: almost all data-crunching, storage, and transmission take place within the edge on-site, the network is more secured as a result as public networks are largely bypassed when transmitting and receiving data to a remote data center.
- Reliability Improvement: having the IoT devices and edge computing infrastructure closer to the end-user equates fewer network hops and far fewer chances of failure. Not to mention that network outages at edge could be spotted and dealt with more promptly.
