Securing Cash-In-Transit with Access Control, Remote Tracking and Video Monitoring

Background

Cash-in-transit vans are frequently exposed to high risks of hijacking, heist and violent attacks. In fact, there have been numerous cases that the vehicle is hijacked and results in the casualty of security guards. Since vehicle security and personnel safety are the primary concerns, modern technologies have been adopted to ensure the safety and security of the valuables of cash-in-transit vans from potential threats.

Requirements

The largest private security company with over 400 armored vehicles in UAE came to Lanner’s system integrator in the Middle East region regarding in-vehicle mobile surveillance system due to unexpected hijackings previously. They decided on an integrated mobile gateway with fleet management and NVR solutions to be installed in the armored vehicle. Essential functions like IP camera connections, visioning technology, fingerprint identification access control and anti-tailing detection are incorporated and enabled by the in-vehicle gateway to improve the safety and security of cash-in-transit jobs.

Access Control

Access control for ID badge check and fingerprint identification can prevent unauthorized individuals to sneak in as staff. The system only allows authorized staff to ignite the armored vehicle.

Speed Limit Control

The system is pre-configured with a standard driving speed for the armored vehicle when the transit staff are performing their duties. It requires higher authority’s approval, like swiping authority’s badge, to raise the driving speed limit. The speed limit control ensures all the valuables are transported in a regulated speed.

Anti-tailing Detection

Advanced anti-tailing A/B door detection is implemented with intelligent video technology. When a person enters Door A through ID check and then step into areas detected by anti-tailing system, Door B will not be opened and alarm alert will be triggered when more than one person passing through is detected. Door B will only be opened if only one authorized personnel passing through is detected.

7 x IP Cameras

The system supports the I/O connection for up to 7 IP cameras onboard. Also, Lanner provides third-party software Milestone Video Management for remote video analysis.

Long Recording Period

In-vehicle surveillance constant records video footages that may be used for later viewing. If the system storage is not with large-enough capacity, the recorded videos will be overwritten by later footages. Therefore, a multi-TB size storage that can keep large number of 1080p high-resolution video files will be the optimal solution.

Real-time Location Monitoring and Geo Fence

When a cash-in-transit is on a trip for missions, the vehicle is monitored by control center and police station. If the armored vehicle is traveling onto an unplanned route, the Geo Fence will alert the control center and police station automatically.

4G/LTE Mobile Connectivity

Use 4G/LTE to transfer data for remote status tracking, such as location, time, vehicle status and video.

Lanner’s Solutions

By taking security and safety into considerations, Lanner’s LVC-5770-7D is applied in this case as a top-notch mobile NVR to work seamlessly with cash-in-transit vehicles for the private company in UAE.

LVC-5770-7D is a state-of-the-art hardware gateway that comes with multiple PoE LAN ports for mobile surveillance. With proper installation of LVC-5770-7D, each armored vehicle is equipped with 7 IP cameras on board.

For long recording period, LVC-5770-7D provides two 2.5” swappable disk drive bays that support up to 4TB storage capacity. With huge storage volume, the gateway can keep a large number of high-resolution 1080p video footages without being overwritten in just couple days.

Regarding the physical characteristics, LVC-5770-7D is built in fanless form factor, ideal for in-vehicle setting. On the other hand, the hardware gateway is MIL-STD-810G compliant to resist shock and vibration that may occur during missions.

To integrate various critical control functions, LVC-5770-7D is built with diversified I/O including Digital Input/Output, Serial COM connection, GPS module and CAN bus to connect with devices or instruments for fingerprint identification, access control, speed limit, location tracking and anti-tailing Door A/B systems.

Integrated with LVC-5770-7D, the armored cash-in-transit is capable of intelligent control and surveillance to transport valuables.
